Travel companion: company that comes with you
Most bookings end at the door of one hotel. This one does not. A travel companion joins you for the moving parts of a trip as well as the stationary ones, which might mean a train to another city for the evening or several days in a row with the same person at the other end of the table.
It is the format with the most moving parts and the one that rewards planning most. Everything about it is agreed in advance and in writing, and nothing about it is improvised at a platform.

The Randstad version
The commonest shape is a day trip with an evening on the end. This country is unusually good for it: Utrecht is under half an hour from Amsterdam by intercity, and Den Haag with its parliament, its Vermeers and its seafront is under an hour from the same platform.
Book the format this way and the travel stops being dead time. A canal city in the afternoon, dinner somewhere neither of you has been before, and a train back at an hour when the carriage is almost empty is a genuinely good day out rather than a logistical exercise.

Longer trips, and how they are arranged
Bookings that run across several days are arranged entirely in advance: the dates, the daily hours, the travel arrangements and the figure, all settled before anyone packs. There are no open ended agreements and nothing gets decided in a departure hall.
Practicalities are yours to arrange, which keeps everything simple. You book the travel and the rooms in the ordinary way. We confirm who is coming, when she is available and what the arrangement costs, all of it on request and all of it in writing.

What makes somebody good at travelling
Not glamour. Patience, adaptability and the ability to be pleasant company at seven in the morning in a station that smells of coffee and diesel. Travel exposes temperament faster than any restaurant does.
It also asks for somebody who can be quiet. A three hour journey where both of you read, look out of the window and say almost nothing is a good sign, not a failure, and the companions who suit this format understand that instinctively.

What to put in the first message
More detail than usual, and earlier than usual. Dates, cities, roughly how many hours each day, whether the evenings are public or private, and whether there is anything with a dress code in the middle of it.
From that we can tell you who is genuinely free for the whole stretch rather than who is free tonight, and give you one clear figure instead of a running total. A rail day inside this country is priced on request. Anything longer than that is a conversation, not a form.

Q01Can she travel to a city outside the Netherlands?
It is possible and it is arranged case by case, well in advance and entirely in writing. Every companion decides for herself whether a trip works for her calendar, and none of it is agreed at short notice. Send the dates and the destination and we will tell you honestly who is free and what is realistic.
Q02Is she with me for the whole day?
Only for the hours you agree. Most multi day bookings define daily hours, because nobody is good company for sixteen hours a day and pretending otherwise ruins the arrangement. A common shape is late afternoon through the evening, with the rest of the day your own.
Q03Who books the trains and the rooms?
You do, in the ordinary way and in your own name. We are not a travel agency and we do not want to be one. Tell us the itinerary you have already arranged and we fit a companion around it, which is simpler for everyone and keeps your arrangements entirely yours.
Q04What does this cost?
On request, always, because a rail day in the Randstad and three days away are plainly not the same booking. Any booking begins from €180 per hour, and everything past that reaches you as a single clear figure in your own message thread before you commit.
