Dinner dates: the window seat is yours
A table for one in a good restaurant is a strange kind of luxury. The food arrives, the room is full of other people's conversations, and you are the only person at your table with nobody to tell about any of it.
A dinner date answers that in the plainest way there is. Your companion appears at the restaurant, or comes to the hotel first and travels with you, and carries her half of the evening from the first glass to whatever happens after the bill. Dinner lengths are priced on request, and the number reaches you in writing before anything is settled, as the fare card explains.

How the evening is put together
Tell us the restaurant, the reservation time and where you would like her to appear. Everything else is arithmetic we do in the background: how long she needs to travel, how long the table is likely to run, whether the night continues somewhere afterwards.
Most dinner bookings are arranged for three hours or more, because a serious kitchen does not serve four courses in ninety minutes and nobody enjoys eating against a clock. If your table is at eight and you would like an hour in the bar first, say so and the booking simply starts at seven.

Choosing the table, or letting us help
Travellers who know the city usually have a place in mind already. Those who do not can describe the evening instead and we will point at the right kind of room: white linen and a sommelier in Oud-Zuid, eight tables and a chalkboard in De Pijp, a long counter somewhere with an open kitchen if you would rather watch the work than the room.
We do not hold tables on your behalf and we take nothing from any restaurant for sending you there, which is precisely why the recommendation is worth having. Book it yourself, in your own name, and tell us the time.

Dressing for the room you are actually in
The single most useful line in your message is what kind of place it is. A tasting menu in the museum quarter, a market district bistro and a hotel restaurant with a dress code each want something different, and nobody on this board needs that explained to her.
A specific request is welcome and easy to meet. Elegant and understated, colourful, something that does not attract attention on the way through a small reception: all of that is a single sentence when you book and none of it is an imposition.

What happens after the bill
Often the best part. A bar with a short list and low lighting, a walk along the water because this city improves after eleven, or straight back to the hotel if the flight was long and the wine was generous. None of it has to be decided in advance.
If you think the evening might run past the hours you booked, say so early rather than at the last minute. Extensions are agreed in writing at the same clear rate before they begin, and they are far easier to arrange at ten o'clock than at half past midnight.

Whichever you prefer, and both are common. Meeting at your hotel gives you a drink together first and a shared arrival at the table, which many travellers like. Meeting at the restaurant is simpler when your afternoon is unpredictable, and she will be at the table before you are rather than after.
Q02Who reserves the table?
You do, in your own name. We will gladly point you towards the kind of restaurant that fits the night you describe, and tell you honestly which districts hold the kitchens worth crossing a city for, but the reservation itself stays yours. That keeps the booking simple and your evening entirely your own business.
Q03Is the restaurant bill included in the fare?
No. The fare covers your companion's time and her travel to you, exactly as set out on our rates page. Dinner, drinks, taxis and anything else the night involves are ordinary costs of going out and are settled the way they would be on any other evening. No number arrives afterwards that was not in the conversation first.
Q04Can a dinner date start late?
Yes, and in this city that is often the better plan. Kitchens in the market district keep going long after the canal ring has quietened down, and a table at ten suits a traveller who landed at seven far better than one at half past six. Tell us the hour your flight gets in and we will work backwards from it.
