Companions aged 30 and over, company at cruising altitude
Four women on this board are 30 or older, and between them they hold most of the qualities regular travellers eventually decide they were looking for all along. None of them is performing a version of herself. None of them needs the evening to prove anything. All four are comfortable with a pause in a conversation, which sounds small and is not.
This is the band for the guest who has done plenty of first meetings and would now rather have an evening that feels like the fourth one.

Four distinct evenings
Margo, 31, came to everything through the piano, and it explains her. She is comfortable with a silence at the table, and will come back twenty minutes later to a remark you had already forgotten making. Contemporary art is the serious enthusiasm, argued properly.
Nancy, 30, let go of any performed version of herself a long time ago. Warmth first, energy a minute later, and no fuss at all once the menus are on the table. A long drive to a town nobody has heard of appeals to her far more than a short flight somewhere fashionable.
Sonya, 32, is the calmest presence on this board and has nothing left to prove to anybody. Years at a barre shaped the way she moves, and a long meditation habit shaped the way she listens, though she raises neither herself.
Violetta, 30, looks from a distance like somebody who does not laugh easily, and then the first joke lands. The woman the photographs imply and the woman who turns up are not the same, and the second is much better company.

What a longer life stage actually changes
Mostly it changes the pace. A dinner with any of these four can go quiet for a minute without anybody reaching to fill it. A plan that moves by two hours produces a question about where to, not a problem to be solved. A guest who has had a bad week is met rather than entertained.
It also changes the conversation. All four ask about the thing behind the thing, and all four are content to talk about something other than work for the whole evening if that is what you would prefer.

The formats they suit
An overnight booking is the format this band handles best, because it asks for the one thing money cannot hurry, which is somebody genuinely easy to be around at two in the morning and again at seven. Sonya is the name asked for most often after a punishing travel week.
For a single evening, give them room. Margo needs a whole evening rather than a scheduled hour, and she is worth every one of them. Violetta suits a dinner with a show afterwards. Nancy is happy with no plan at all. Sonya is for the guest who would rather be understood than amused.

Gates and the rest of the board
Three of them are Oud-Zuid residents, within reach of the concert hall and the museum streets, and one keeps a place in the Jordaan a walk from the canal hotels. All four make the run down to the airport hotels comfortably with a little notice.
